One of the great things about Mid-Day Business and Professional Women is that we have members from a variety of backgrounds. It’s great to take time and learn more about some of our members. This month, we’re talking with Autumn Hill of Autumn Hill Creative, LLC.

What drew you to Mid-Day Business and Professional Women and how long have you been a member?

My business partner and mother, Yvonne Kehl, introduced me to Mid-Day Business and Professional Women. She attended a meeting as a guest and encouraged me to come because I’m passionate about women’s rights and educating young women about equality.

Being a part of Mid-Day Business and Professional Women has been fulfilling for me because of the opportunity to share those messages with others through volunteering in the group.

Once I did come as a guest, I was attracted to the spirit of growth and unity that I observed within Mid-Day. It seemed like a very dynamic, progressive, and supportive group of professional women.

I’ve been a member since 2005 and immediately took an active role in the group. My first position was as Newsletter Chair, which was a great way to learn about all the activities happening within the group. As Newsletter Chair, I instituted the use of an e-newsletter format, which we are still using today.

In 2005, Mid-Day did not have any presence on the Internet, so when a volunteer was sought to develop a website for the group, I volunteered, despite being a new member. I enlisted the help of another firm we work with, and together we designed, developed and donated a $10,000 website to Mid-Day, which is still in use today.

My next position was as Co-President for two years, during which time Mid-Day was awarded “Local of the Year” from the state Federation, and I served as Networking Events Chair at the same time. I’ve served as the Seeds for Sustainability Chair for the past two years, and I’m also currently the Legislation Chair for Mid-Day. I enjoy the challenge of getting involved in areas of the group that are non-existent or need additional development.

I’m sharing this with you because in order to get the most benefit out of your membership, I would encourage you to get involved in an area of the organization that interests you. I am very grateful for the personal and professional growth I’ve experienced through my association with Mid-Day Business and Professional Women.

Please tell us a little about your professional background and what you are currently doing.

I’m a Fox Valley native that left the area to pursue my education at Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design in Denver Colorado, earning a BFA degree in Advertising and Graphic Design. I returned to school after graduation to obtain an additional certificate in Website Development from the Colorado Institute of Art. I pursued my career in Denver for 10 years working in a couple of different industries including healthcare, advertising, and direct mail, gaining valuable experience for the next chapter of my life.

About five years ago, I returned to the Fox Valley to realize my dream of owning a business. In 2004, I launched Autumn Hill Creative, LLC with my mother and business partner, Yvonne Kehl. Autumn Hill Creative, LLC is a Marketing Communications Company offering Marketing Planning, Social Media Marketing, Graphic Design & Printing, Website Development, Promotional Products, and more.

We assist companies large and small with a full spectrum of marketing services, becoming a true partner to our clients, helping them grow their businesses.

My role within Autumn Hill Creative is Visionary and Creative Director, which means that I’m in charge of production and our staff, ensuring that everything we create meets our high quality standards. Our clients appreciate the fresh perspective, refined design, and premier customer service they experience with every project.

My short-term goals include continuing to grow our company and to promote women’s issues through the legislative process. Long-term I would like to earn my master’s degree and travel abroad.

Please share an interesting fact about yourself with the rest of our membership.

About four years ago, I discovered a passion for golf. I joined the Executive Women’s Golf Association and despite never having played a round, found that I really loved it. I took lessons through the association and have been playing on a league for the last couple of years.

Golf is the perfect game for me because although it can be played as a team or as part of a group, when you play golf you are really challenging yourself, and it’s as much of a mental game as a physical one. An additional benefit is the opportunity to network with other business people on the course. Give me a call; I’ll meet you on the links!
